8 July 2025 – The International Research Centre of Islamic Economics and Finance (IRCIEF) hosted a round table discussion titled “Rebuilding Amid Ruins: Charting Sudan’s Economic Future in Times of Conflict” at the Bangi Avenue Convention Centre.
The session brought together Sudan’s academic diaspora, representatives from the Sudanese Embassy, local and international observers, and academicians to discuss the nation’s economic challenges and potential recovery strategies. The dialogue aimed to highlight key issues and explore collaborative approaches to rebuilding Sudan’s economy amid ongoing conflict.

IRCIEF-UIS telah menganjurkan satu perbincangan meja bulat yang bertajuk ‘ Pengurusan Dana Luar Dari Perspektif Shariah dan Perakaunan. Perbincangan ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan garis panduan yang jelas dan betul berkaitan pengurusan dana kewangan mengikut perspektif Shariah dan Perakaunan.
Program ini telah diadakan pada 24 Julai 2023 bertempat di Dewan Senat, Universiti Islam Selangor. Antara panel yang dijemput adalah Datuk Prof. Dr. Mohamad Akram Laldin, Prof. Engku Rabiah bt Engku Ali, Dr Sarifah Ismail dan lain-lain lagi.
IRCIEF-UIS telah menganjurkan satu perbincangan meja bulat yang membincangkan pemerkasaan golongan autisme. Persidangan meja bulat ini adalah sebahagian daripada aktiviti International Showcase on Economic Empowerment For Person With Autism (ISEEPA 2023) pada 11 Februari 2023, bertempat di Dewan Senat, Universiti Islam Selangor. Perbincangan secara tertutup ini melibatkan wakil ibu bapa yang mempunyai anak autisme, wakil industri, wakil akademik dan wakil badan bukan kerajaan (NGO).
IRCIEF-KUIS dengan kerjasama Fakulti Pengurusan dan Muamalah dan Fakulti Syariah Undang-undang KUIS telah menganjurkan satu perbincangan meja bulat yang membincangkan tentang Memperkasa Tadbir Urus Pengurusan Kewangan NGO pada hari ini iaitu 2 Disember 2021 secara atas talian
Panel-panel yang dijemput adalah Prof. Madya Dr. Nor’Adha Abd Hamid (KUIS), Prof Engku Rabiatul Adawiyah Engku Ali (IIUM), Dr. Siti Normala Sheikh Obid (CEO, Intect Solutions), En. Mohd Zikri Mohd Shairy (BIMB), En. Wan Zainul Azam Bin Khamid @Abdul Majid (ROS), En. Zulkifli Wahijan (Presiden Muslim Care Malaysia) dan En. Khalid Al-Walid Mustafa Kamil (Pengarah Urusan Philandure Sdn. Bhd. Moderator bagi sesi perbincangan meja bulat ini ialah En. Nazri Kahar (Editor Astro Awani).
Berdasarkan Perbincangan bersama panel-panel, maka resolusi bagi perbincangan meja bulat berkenaan Memperkasa Tadbir Urus Pengurusan Kewangan NGO mencakupi 7 aspek iaitu Undang-Undang, Tadbir Urus, Penetapan kos pengurusan, Sistem Pengurusan Data, Kerjasama, Pelaporan dan Pengukuran.
Zakat Excellence Unit under the International Research Centre of Islamic Economics and Finance (IRCIEF) in collaboration organized the Roundtable Discussion on 16 July 2019 at Senate Hall, International Islamic University College Selangor (KUIS). The program was attended by 30 participants and was officiated by Dr Norziah Othman, Dean Faculty of Management and Muamalah, KUIS.
The roundtable discussion was led by Mr Wan Rumaizi Wan Husin, Shariah Advisor as the moderator. Among the discussion, panellists are the academicians from universities and non-government organization. There are two issues that have arisen throughout the session which are the assessment of Asnaf’s priorities in current Zakat Distribution and the assessment of Zakat to the LGBT group and kafir (mustad’afin). The program ended successfully.
On 16th April 2018, a roundtable discussion on cryptocurrency has been organized by the International Research Centre of Islamic Economics and Finance (IRCIEF), KUIS in collaboration with the Faculty of Science and Information Technology (FSTM), KUIS, International Shari’ah Research Academy for Islamic Finance (ISRA) and Movement for Monetary Justice of Malaysia (MMJ). The programme took place at the International Islamic University College of Selangor (KUIS) from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
The roundtable discussion has been led by Prof Dr Ashraf Md Hashim, Chief Executive Officer of ISRA Consultancy as the moderator. Among the roundtable, discussion panellists are the academicians from universities, non-government organization, representatives from mufti offices and information technology experts. There are varieties of issues that have arisen throughout the session such as the usage status of cryptocurrency from Shariah perspective and security issues in using cryptocurrency.
In the midst of the programme, a Memorandum of Cooperation has been signed between KUIS and ISRA. KUIS has been represented by Dr Mohamad Syukri Abdul Rahman, Deputy Rector of Student and Alumni Development while ISRA has been represented by Prof Dr Ashraf Md Hashim.
At the end of the roundtable discussion, the moderator summarized if cryptocurrency is backed by commodity or issued by the government, the issues that arise are expected to be less, however, it also depends on how well it is implemented and it is essential to get verification of subject matter expert. Other than that, the value of cryptocurrency among its users is based on their trust in the technology used. In addition, cryptocurrency with strong technology will survive while cryptocurrency with weak technology will not last. Cryptocurrency is not a stand-alone currency. As of now, it is still based on fiat money.
In the context of Shariah, the use of cryptocurrency as a medium of settlement and remittance may fall under the general concept of the following; All things are originally permissible (الأَصْلُ فِي الأَشْيَاءِ الإِبَاحَة) and the willingness of the sides in implementing the contract.
Overall, this programme has given exposure to the attendees in knowing the cryptocurrency issues which are still new in this country from various perspectives.
International Research Centre for Islamic Economics and Finance (IRCIEF) had organized a Roundtable Discussion: Way Forward to Waqf University on 17th August 2017 at Management Meeting Room, Kolej Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Selangor (KUIS). The event was attended by 7 invited speakers from various institutions.
The Roundtable Discussion: Way Forward to Waqf University began with an opening speech by Dr Mokmin Basri, Deputy Rector (Academic and Research), KUIS followed by his presentation on “Aspiration of KUIS as Waqf University”. The program continued with a presentation from the Director of IRCIEF KUIS, Dr Latifa Bibi Musafar Hameed. Her presentation was about “Waqf University Models Based on Benchmark Studies” and was followed by a discussion among the invited speakers.
After the lunch break, the program continued with a presentation on “Waqf Education in UPM” by Dr Razali bin Othman, Director of WAZAN, UPM followed by resolution and wrap-up. The program which was conducted for eight hours ended successfully.
International Research Centre of Islamic Economics and Finance (IRCIEF), KUIS in collaboration with Islamic Research and Training Institute (IRTI), Islamic Development Bank (IDB) organised the Policy Roundtable Discussion on Maqasid Shari’ah on 1 and 2 June 2015 at Senate Hall, KUIS. The programme was attended by 5 presenters and 36 participants.
The presenters were Mr. Ascarya (Bank Indonesia), Dr. Shafiullah Jan (Institute of Management Sciences, Peshawar, Pakistan), Dr. Zahoor Khan (Institute of Management Sciences, Peshawar, Pakistan), Dr. Muhammad Azeem Qureshi (University College of Applied Sciences, Oslo, Norway) and Mr. Ismail Nizam (IIUM). The participants were representatives from State Economic Planning Unit (State EPU), IRTI-IDB, INCEIF, ISRA, Securities Commission, Bank Negara Malaysia, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) and KUIS. Puan Nazifah Mustaffha and Mohd Rofaizal bin Ibhraim of KUIS acted as the rapporteur for the programme.
The programme with the theme Maqasid Shari’ah for Social Economic Development was organised with the main objective to discuss on issues, solutions and provide recommendations to Maqasid Shari’ah related issues. The two-day programme was officiated by Prof. Dr. Abdul Ghafar Ismail, Head of Islamic Economics and Finance Research Division, IRTI and the discussion was moderated by Dr. Salman Syed Ali of IRTI-IDB. The result was a wide-ranging debate and fruitful discussion that covered all issues identified and agreed upon by the presenters and participants at the end of the programme.
The closing ceremony was officiated by KUIS Rector Prof Dato Dr. Ab Halim Tamuri who, in his speech, had expressed his gratitude to IRTI for their trust in KUIS and IRCIEF in particular, to collaborate in organizing the event and his hope was to have many more collaborative efforts from both parties in the future.

A Regular Roundtable Discussion and Memorandum of Understanding signing ceremony was held with the Centre for Islamic Banking, Finance and Management (CIBFM), Universiti Brunei Darussalam Campus on 05th August 2015.
Bank Rakyat in collaboration with the International Research Centre of Islamic Economics and Finance (IRCIEF) KUIS organised the Roundtable Discussion on Ar-Rahnu Products on 31 December 2014 at the Senate Hall, KUIS. The programme was attended by 11 panellists and 19 observers from Bank Rakyat, Bank Islam, ISRA, YAPEIM, UIAM and KUIS.
The panelists were Dr. Mohamed Fairooz Abdul Khir (ISRA), Encik Burhanuddin Lukman (ISRA), Prof. Dr. Azman Mohd Noor (IIUM), Encik Wan Rumaizi Wan Husin (Bank Rakyat), Encik Abdullaah Jalil (Bank Rakyat), Prof. Madya Dr. Siti Salwani Razali (Bank Rakyat), Encik Mohd Nazri Chik (Bank Islam), Encik Hairul Fazli Mohammad Som (KUIS), Encik Khairul Anuar Ahmad (KUIS), dan Encik Ahmad Yani Ismail (KUIS).
The observers from KUIS were Encik Muhammad Subari Ramli, Puan Maffuza Mohd Salleh, Puan Sa’diah Abdul Karim, Puan Nurul Wajhi Ahmad, Dr. Nor Hakimah Haji Mohd Nor, Puan Farah Mohd Shahwahid, Puan Norhanizah Johari and Puan Nurhayati Abdul Ghani while Puan Nazifah Mustaffha and Puan Marliana Abdullah acted as the resolution writers for the programme.
The programme with the theme Discussion on Ar-Rahnu of Bank Rakyat: Structure and Issues was organised with the main objective to revisit and re-evaluate the Ar-Rahnu product in ensuring Shariah compliant and halal income of the Bank Ar-Rahnu activities and to find solutions to the issues.
The one-day programme was officiated by KUIS Rector Prof. Dato’ Dr. Ab. Halim bin Tamuri and the discussion was moderated by Vice President, Shariah Compliance of Bank Rakyat, Encik Mohd Zamerey bin Abdul Razak. The result was a wide-ranging debate and fruitful discussion that covered all issues identified and agreed upon by the panellists at the end of the programme.
